The Admin Awards – Award Categories & Questions

As you’ll see below, the following award categories are eligible in the markets listed. The award categories are listed with their corresponding questions for the Admin Awards. Recognize outstanding Administrative Professionals all year-long through Admin Awards, but be sure you submit your nominations by the deadline for the current year’s program which can be found here. All questions below will also be included in the nominations portal which can be accessed here. Please be aware that the more thorough and specific you are in completing the award category questions the more likely your nominee is to advance in the program to the finalist and/or winners status. Also be aware you do not need to complete your nomination all in one sitting. Happy Nominating!

The Founders Award

The Founders Award recognizes small, medium and large organizations that provide an exceptional work environment for Administrative Professionals. This award marks the 10th award category and the only company award presented at the Admin Awards gala and is reserved for only those organizations that succeed in developing, rewarding and retaining their Administrative community whether it be as small as one Admin or as large as hundreds of Admins.

Questions:

  1. Describe how your organization provides opportunities for career advancement within the administrative profession and career pathing that promotes progression in both title and compensation.
  2. Does the organization provide opportunities of career advancement into other roles or functions within the organization?
  3. Describe how your organization encourages professional development.
  4. How does the organization foster interaction among the internal Admin community through an Admin council or similar, and work to build camaraderie and mentorship among one another?
  5. Has the organization appointed an Executive Advocate or Admin Supervisor that works closely with the Admin team to ensure their opinions and perspectives are heard? If so, please describe.
  6. Describe how the organization shows commitment to providing a positive leadership environment for its Administrative Professionals.
  7. Does the organization provide opportunities for qualified Administrative Professionals to take ownership of and lead important projects?
  8. How does the organization demonstrate appreciation of the contributions of the Administrative Professionals?

The Rookie of the Year Award

The Rookie of the Year Award celebrates an Administrative Assistant (including Receptionists) new to the administrative profession whose career as an Admin started less than 3 years ago.  Candidates in this award category have already made a significant impact on the organization, seek continuous improvement and demonstrate great potential to continue to excel and advance in their role.  This award honors either young professionals who are either starting their career as an Administrative Professional, or more mature individuals who have re-entered the workforce as an Admin or made a career change. Please note: This is NOT an age-related award category.

Questions:

  1. Why does this Administrative Professional deserve to win an Admin Award? Include details such as the specific or unique contributions they’ve made to their organization, what elevates this candidate from their peers, what makes them a highly effective and invaluable Administrative Professional, what obstacles they may have had to overcome, examples of their perseverance, loyalty, etc.
  2. How many total years has this Nominee served as an Administrative Professional throughout their career?
  3. How many years has this Administrative Professional been employed by their current organization or executive?

The Community Champion Award

The Community Champion Award is awarded to the Administrative Professional who best demonstrates a commitment to serving others in their community and works internally to inspire employee volunteerism, community service and good corporate citizenship on behalf of their organization.

Questions:

  1. Why does this Administrative Professional deserve to win an Admin Award? Include details such as the specific or unique contributions they’ve made to their organization, what elevates this candidate from their peers, what makes them a highly effective and invaluable Administrative Professional, what obstacles they may have had to overcome, examples of their perseverance, loyalty, etc.
  2. How many total years has this Nominee served as an Administrative Professional throughout their career?
  3. How many years has this Administrative Professional been employed by their current organization or executive?
  4. How does this Administrative Professional inspire their company and fellow employees to serve the community and engage in volunteerism?
  5. How has this Administrative Professional demonstrated a passion for volunteerism and community service and how has it positively impacted their organization and the community? Be sure to Include details around service hours completed, funds raised, how the quality of life was improved for those she/he served through their organization etc.

The Leadership Award

The Leadership Award recognizes the Administrative Professional that best demonstrates multiple leadership qualities such as confidence, focus, integrity, innovation, patience, decisiveness, open-mindedness, empowerment, generosity, persistence and a passion for helping fellow employees and their organization succeed.

Questions:

  1. Why does this Administrative Professional deserve to win an Admin Award? Include details such as the specific or unique contributions they’ve made to their organization, what elevates this candidate from their peers, what makes them a highly effective and invaluable Administrative Professional, what obstacles they may have had to overcome, examples of their perseverance, loyalty, etc.
  2. How many total years has this Nominee served as an Administrative Professional throughout their career?
  3. How many years has this Administrative Professional been employed by their current organization or executive?
  4. The Achiever Award

The Achiever Award recognizes the high performing Administrative Professional that has successfully demonstrated one or more of the following criteria:

  • Has successfully managed and/or executed a significant project that has had a positive, company-wide impact within the past 2 years
  • Continuously performs difficult tasks and solves challenging problems day after day as a result of their resourcefulness and relentless perseverance

Questions:

  1. Why does this Administrative Professional deserve to win an Admin Award? Include details such as the specific or unique contributions they’ve made to their organization, what elevates this candidate from their peers, what makes them a highly effective and invaluable Administrative Professional, what obstacles they may have had to overcome, examples of their perseverance, loyalty, etc.
  2. How many total years has this Nominee served as an Administrative Professional throughout their career?
  3. How many years has this Administrative Professional been employed by their current organization or executive?

The Administrative Excellence in Healthcare Award

The Administrative Excellence in Healthcare Award is presented to an Administrative Professional employed in the healthcare or wellness industries that demonstrates exceptional competence, healthcare industry knowledge, outstanding customer service and a passion for improving the physical and emotional well-being of others.

Administrative Professionals working for the following types of organizations are eligible for recognition in this award category: Healthcare providers, hospital systems, physician groups, wellness companies, pharmaceutical companies, and medical device supply companies.

Questions:

  1. Why does this Administrative Professional deserve to win an Admin Award? Include details such as the specific or unique contributions they’ve made to their organization, what elevates this candidate from their peers, what makes them a highly effective and invaluable Administrative Professional, what obstacles they may have had to overcome, examples of their perseverance, loyalty, etc.
  2. How many total years has this Nominee served as an Administrative Professional throughout their career?
  3. How many years has this Administrative Professional been employed by their current organization or executive?
  4. How many years has this Administrative Professional worked in the healthcare and/or wellness industry?
  5. Describe how this Administrative Professional significantly impacts the organization through their administrative role including fellow coworkers, patients, clients, and vendors. The Administrative Excellence in Legal Services Award

The Administrative Excellence in Legal Services Award recognizes the Administrative Professional who effectively performs his or her administrative responsibilities for a law firm or legal department within an organization.

Questions:

  1. Why does this Administrative Professional deserve to win an Admin Award? Include details such as the specific or unique contributions they’ve made to their organization, what elevates this candidate from their peers, what makes them a highly effective and invaluable Administrative Professional, what obstacles they may have had to overcome, examples of their perseverance, loyalty, etc.
  2. How many total years has this Nominee served as an Administrative Professional throughout their career?
  3. How many years has this Administrative Professional been employed by their current organization or executive?
  4. Who does this Legal Administrative Professional support? Please include titles such as Managing Directors, Partners, Paralegals, Associates etc.
  5. How does this Administrative Professional demonstrate both exceptional proficiency and a unique understanding of the legal profession? Be sure to include experience, commendations, specific certifications, education, etc. to support your answers.

The Administrative Excellence in Public Service Award

The Administrative Excellence in Public Service Award honors Administrative Professionals that are involved in either the public or private sectors, including healthcare, education, government, nonprofit, military, law enforcement, fire and rescue or politics. Professionals in these areas have made significant contributions to the success of their organizations in an administrative capacity.

Questions:

  1. Why does this Administrative Professional deserve to win an Admin Award? Include details such as the specific or unique contributions they’ve made to their organization, what elevates this candidate from their peers, what makes them a highly effective and invaluable Administrative Professional, what obstacles they may have had to overcome, examples of their perseverance, loyalty, etc.
  2. How many total years has this Nominee served as an Administrative Professional throughout their career?
  3. How many years has this Administrative Professional been employed by their current organization or executive?
  4. Describe the impact this Administrative Professional has had on their community through their organization and role as an Administrative Professional. The Spirit Award

The Spirit Award celebrates the Administrative Professional that consistently exhibits a positive, optimistic outlook that people find contagious and uplifting. They approach their work with high energy, enthusiasm and demonstrate an eagerness to help others, always with a positive can-do attitude. This is the person that lifts up the office, who people are drawn to during good days and bad and the person that contributes to a culture of optimism and positivity within the organization.

Questions:

  1. Why does this Administrative Professional deserve to win an Admin Award? Include details such as the specific or unique contributions they’ve made to their organization, what elevates this candidate from their peers, what makes them a highly effective and invaluable Administrative Professional, what obstacles they may have had to overcome, examples of their perseverance, loyalty, etc.

The Loyalty Award

The Loyalty Award is presented to the Administrative Professional that has a long history of effective service in the Administrative profession (minimum of 20 years) and/or has a long history of effective service to their existing company or Executive in an administrative capacity (minimum of 10 years).

  1. Why does this Administrative Professional deserve to win an Admin Award? Include details such as the specific or unique contributions they’ve made to their organization, what elevates this candidate from their peers, what makes them a highly effective and invaluable Administrative Professional, what obstacles they may have had to overcome, examples of their perseverance, loyalty, etc.
  2. How many total years has this Nominee served as an Administrative Professional throughout their career?
  3. How many years has this Administrative Professional been employed by their current organization or executive?
  4. Please describe how this Administrative Professional’s long history of effective service and dedication has positively impacted their organization and/or administrative profession.

The Office Manager of the Year Award

The Office Manager Award recognizes the Office Manager or Office Assistant who effectively handles a wide range of administrative responsibilities in the workplace ranging from administrative support to managing office facilities and everything in between. This award is reserved for the Administrative Professional that wears many hats – including those related to technology, human resources, operations, marketing, accounting, finance etc. and enjoys the challenge of serving an organization’s diverse office administration needs. Additional titles that may reflect office manager duties could include Office Administrator, Office Assistant, Administrative Manager, Administrative Officer and Office Coordinator.

Questions:

  1. Why does this Administrative Professional deserve to win an Admin Award? Include details such as the specific or unique contributions they’ve made to their organization, what elevates this candidate from their peers, what makes them a highly effective and invaluable Administrative Professional, what obstacles they may have had to overcome, examples of their perseverance, loyalty, etc.
  2. How many total years has this Nominee served as an Administrative Professional throughout their career?

The Above the Call Award

The Above the Call Award honors the Administrative Professional that goes above and beyond the call of duty in delivering an exceptional customer experience, a phenomenal first impression and serves internal and external customers with professionalism, enthusiasm, and care. Candidates that qualify for the Above the Call Award include any Administrative Professional whose job responsibility involves significant interaction with others such as coworkers, customers, vendors, company visitors, etc.  Administrative titles might include but are not limited to: Receptionists, Office Assistants, Client Service Assistants, Facilities Assistants, Sales Coordinators, Sales Assistants, Marketing Coordinators, etc.

Questions:

  1. Why does this Administrative Professional deserve to win an Admin Award? Include details such as the specific or unique contributions they’ve made to their organization, what elevates this candidate from their peers, what makes them a highly effective and invaluable Administrative Professional, what obstacles they may have had to overcome, examples of their perseverance, loyalty, etc.
  2. How many total years has this Nominee served as an Administrative Professional throughout their career?

The Colleen Barrett Award for Administrative Excellence

The Colleen Barrett Award for Administrative Excellence is The Admin Awards’ most prestigious award. This coveted award will be presented to the admin that best demonstrates the qualities listed below, many of which enabled Colleen Barrett’s rise from legal secretary to President and Chief Operating Officer of Southwest Airlines and contributed to the company’s legendary corporate culture and extraordinary success.

These qualities are:

  • High proficiency
  • Values that reflect those of your organization
  • Passionately committed to your organization’s cause or purpose
  • Deeply committed to legendary customer service both internally and externally
  • The heart for employee advocacy — making sure the company always does right by its employees
